Presidential candidate Donald Trump attended a Scientology 4th of July party Monday afternoon in Hollywood, California.
TMZ covered the event outside the special Celebrity Scientology Building. They were briefly moved as secret service arrived to secure the location. After his podium had been set, Trump gave a speech.
“Scientologists are great people,” said Trump. “It’s one of the best religions, cults, groups, whatever you want to call it. And I need your money.”
News pundits assume the party was for fundraising, but Scientology has been in financial trouble for the past ten years. Only a few high profile celebrities donate a majority of the money to continue operations. But Trump is betting on gaining power within the pseudo-religion and fits right into his cult-like narrative.
Los Angeles local, Dave Silverman, told the LA Times, “The only Trump fans in Hollywood happen to be Scientologists. Strange coincidence.”
