Donald Trump is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) after his campaign sent threatening e-mails to Monday’s debate moderators. This adds another layer to the already highly anticipated presidential debate. The media companies who employ the moderators immediately contacted the FBI after the threatening emails Friday and the Bureau considers it a high priority.
Debate moderators might get hazed by other media outlets from time to time but it’s unprecedented that a presidential nominee threatens the moderators whose simple job is to ask the candidates questions. Trump is very concerned when someone dares to fact check him.
The content of the threatening emails has not been made public but inside sources say an email of this kind would land an ordinary citizen in prison. The FBI is bringing in mob experts to help deal with the situation since the content is very similar to the underworld crime syndicates.
The moderators will have essentially Secret Service detail until the debates and the following days to an undisclosed time. This shows the FBI is worried about the retaliation of the debate if Trump is unhappy with the questioning.
“It’s a delicate situation right now,” said FBI spokeswoman Susan Thompson. “Normal protocol would be to interview the man threatening their target but that person is in debate prep and it might look bad to take time away from his preparation and seem like the FBI is favoring Clinton.”
These are not the first threats to come from the Trump campaign. Trump has twice called for the assassination of Clinton while on the campaign trail. VICE News recently filed a lawsuit against the IRS and FBI to gain information on what information they have collected on the public threats to Clinton and the release of Trump’s taxes dating back from 2002.
The elections are only a few months away and Trump has several investigations with the IRS, FBI, and now intimidation charges. Yet, Trump is even in the polls with Clinton? And if he wins how will the FBI investigations continue?
