After actor Shia LaBeouf had streamed himself watching his movies for 72 straight hours online, he offered refunds for several of his movies through a website that lasted for two weeks. Today the former Nickelodeon star announced he will refund nearly $10 million in ticket sales to viewers of his movies.
The most popular movie refunds come from Transformers 3 and Indiana Jones 4. In total $9,921,540.67 will be refunded to 1.24 million people. Each person will receive $8 redeemable through an email link to PayPal.
The link expires 4/20/16, which gives viewers five months to claim their money. People from 27 countries and every continent besides Antartica will receive the refund.
LaBeouf issued a statement saying, “I’m happy people took me up on my offer to refund their money on subpar films. I appreciate people’s honesty and hope to serve you better in the future through better quality films. I hope I have gained back your support. While ten million dollars is a lot of money even for a movie star like me, I’m happy to know I can sleep better at night. All the best. -SL”
With the success of Shia LaBeouf’s campaign, consumer advocacy groups are putting pressure on Adam Sandler to do the same refund campaign.
