Irving, Texas - After Ahmed Mohamed and his family sued the City of Irvine and its school district for $15 million, the Mayor’s lawyers have countered with 15 million ‘doll hairs’ as a settlement.
On September 14th, Mohamed brought a clock in a briefcase to his 8th-grade gym class when police were called to investigate the device. The student was promptly arrested, and the story made international news headlines.
After numerous media interviews and invitations to Facebook and the White House, the family has decided to move to Qatar, a country along the Persian Gulf coast, where the children will attend school.
Ahmed’s lawyer claim the 14-year-old was singled out by school and city officials because of his skin color, race, and religion. Public officials also made the initial situation worse by blaming the plaintiff on what happened to him.
However, many see $15 million as excessive for the situation so the Texas city countered with a 15 million doll hair offer.
Irvine Mayor Beth Van Duyne told the Dallas Star, “I’d be cheaper if we shot the kid. We’d only have to pay two to three million at the most, besides, a Texas jury will throw out most of those cases anyway.
“He should take our generous offer of fifteen million doll hairs and be happy with it. That can buy you a lot of spices in the Middle East.”
