Ken Griffey Jr., who hit 630 home runs and won 10 gold gloves over his 22-year career, was voted into the Hall of Fame in his first year eligible.
“I got the call from the Hall of Fame writers letting me know I was three votes shy of a unanimous vote into the Hall. Hung up the phone with my family celebrating in the background,” said Griffy. “As I got the couch to hug my wife, I jumped up and heard something pop in my left hamstring.”
He will be rehabbing the injury and should be ready for the Hall of Fame induction on July 24th, 2016. A MRI is set for tomorrow as a precaution.
The other notable Hall of Fame selection is catcher Mike Piazza. Jeff Bagwell missed the election by 4% and is predicted to enter in next year’s vote.
