In a proportional effort by Facebook to promote ‘Facebook Live,’ a live streaming Facebook feature, Facebook will live stream a rap battle between Eminem and Drake. Each participant will reportedly receive $4 million in compensation. The battle will air live, 8 pm e/ct Thursday only on Facebook.
“This will help test our servers for live video with millions estimated to view this epic rap battle, brought to you by Facebook Live,” said Facebook spokeswoman Susan Thompson. “We think this could break Super Bowl records with the Live video being shown to 2 billion users simultaneously.”
Facebook has made huge strides into video and now Live video. With the internet war this past week of Drake calling out Eminem, the company saw an opportunity to seize on the war. “What starts online, ends online,” said Thompson. “This is the Facebook era we now live in.”
This is one step forward to Facebook’s war against Google’s YouTube video platform.
