Donald Trump spoke to Fox News host Sean Hannity today. In the interview, the GOP nominee claimed he “won a couple Olympic Gold Medals in 1973, I think.” Hannity smiled and asked, “Really?” Trump, without hesitation, replied, “Yes. In shotput and swimming, I think. The Olympics were different back then. You could easily do two non-related sports, or at least I did.”
Hannity praised Trump for his achievements. “That’s an amazing feat to achieve. I can visualize you doing the shot-put, you’re a big guy. But I can’t imagine you swimming; I’d love to see you swimming.” Trump said, “I’m sure there is a tape out there. I think I got two gold medals for that one.” Hannity, joyfully said, “That’s awesome! You always like to swim.”
Trump replied, “Yes, everyone should. And Sean, remember, the main point is ‘Winning’ and that’s what I do. From the Olympics to business and now politics. I was even my 5th-grade president. I got all the kid’s free candy and an extra 10 minutes of recess. I remember it vividly. I was probably the best 5th-grade president ever. Usually, kids promise candy and it never happens, but I got the candy. Even the teachers got candy. We can’t forget about the teachers, but the education system needs to change.”
Politifact noted there was not a Summer Olympics in 1973. There was one in 1972 which is known for the Munich Massacre, where 11 Israeli athletes and several West German police were killed in a bombing by Palestinians. Munich won the Olympic bid. Detroit was an option but game 4th in voting.
