The most celebrated Olympian of all time beat up three muggers at gunpoint in Rio. The swimmer was able to disarm one of the assailants while defending himself against the other two muggers, including knocking one of them out. Phelps then sat on three bodies until police came and arrested the three muggers.
There have been other incidents of robberies and muggings of Olympic athletes during this Summer Olympics, but Phelps wasn’t about to be a victim. Phelps told NBC News, “I saw several flaws in their attack. While the man with the handgun posed the most serious threat, I didn’t know if the other two had concealed weapons. So, with some basic Judo I learned from my other Olympics, I disarmed the asshole with a gun and used him as a shield while I took on the other two.
“One mugger accidently punched his friend with the gun in his face as I swung his body around like a shield. This left him unguarded so I hip-tossed him as hard as I could into a cement wall. The third guy began to run away but tripped and hit his head against an old cars bumper.
“It happened so quickly and would never recommend fighting but my competitive nature took over and Rio now has three less bad guys on the streets.”
The Rio police thanked the Olympic Gold Medalist and apologized to him for the ordeal. An Olympic spokesman for the security of the event released a statement saying, ‘We are ashamed of the actions of the three individuals who tried to rob, threaten and potential hurt Mr. Phelps, but we are thrilled and thankful the greatest Olympian ever overcame the three bad guys and police were able to apprehend them. Once again, we apologize to Mr. Phelps for the situation but praise his swift action of justice.”
During the Olympics, Phelps won several more Gold Medals and a Silver Medal. When asked if he would swim again in four years he said, “Hell yeah. Might even wear around a cape and serve justice to criminals who try to pray to on the weak. Too bad they targeted me, not a good idea. And I can’t recommend my actions unless you are one hundred percent certain you will be victorious. I just know the feeling when I will be and acted on it all over those punks.”
