San Francisco - The city council voted 8-3 to ban the use and sale of plastic garbage bags. Starting Jan 1st, only metal cans will be allowed.
Councilman Steve Williams told the San Francisco Chronicle, “Plastic is destroying our planet. It ends up in our oceans, harming fish. And it fills our landfills. Metal is reusable and recyclable. No drawstring bags, no flex bags, not even scented bags are allowed.”
Locals are upset over the law. “We have to clean metal bins now?” said Susan Thompson. “I have five children and no garbage disposal, it’s going to be mess. Will I have to hose it down when it gets too dirty? I’d rather have some dead fish than this time consuming absurd law. I don’t know what the fine is for using a plastic garbage bag but it better be pretty damn high if they want me to abide.”
The restaurant union has already filed a lawsuit against the city claiming the law is “stupid” and “fucked up.”
