A box of returned Samsung Note 7’s left a North Carolina Verizon store smoldering after it caught fire in the middle of Sunday night, according to police arson experts.
At 1:23 am fire trucks arrived and quickly exterminated the fire with water and special foam used for potential electrical fires. “the store was closed and no employees were hurt in the incident,” said the Verizon store manager Peter Appleseed.
Firefighter Jeff Thompson told reporters, “It was a newer store, so we had Siri help us navigate. Technology has helped firefighters and other first responders.”
Insurance companies will cover the cost with Samsung offering the telecom company a special insulated box to store returned Note 7s.
The discarding of old electrical devices can be more difficult than people realize. “There are toxic components in every device you buy,” said Consumer electronics expert Tosh Ridley. “And they are filled with rare metals that mostly come from China. We should be actively collecting people’s old electronic devices simply to store these rare metals.”
A new store should be built in three months, but many locals are not in a hurry to see that happen. “I mean, it’s better than AT&T but still not what I call an ice cream parlor.”
Some people were happy to see the store in smoldering rubble. “I hate that store and am happy it burned to the ground.”
